Tilt – Never Ending Story: Throw-ups, Traces & Erasure

26 June @ 18:00 - 21:00 CEST

During lockdown, Tilt — the Toulouse graffiti artist known worldwide for his work — set himself one rule: a throw-up a day. More than 700 appeared across his city, only to vanish soon after under layers of buff paint. Never Ending Story grew out of that obsessive, ephemeral practice — a deep dive into the aesthetics of appearance and disappearance, documenting two decades of gestures, traces, and erasures.

More than a photo book, Never Ending Story brings together Tilt’s hands-on experience, the analyses of researchers David Pontille and Evelyne Toussaint, and the perspective of a pioneer like Henry Chalfant — co-author of Subway Art, who describes Tilt’s throwies as plump, jolly beings that shake, rattle and roll, even on a concrete wall. With work and words from international legends — Moses, Taps, Nop2, Seen, Pemex, OsGemeos, Remio, Fish, Puls, Padre… — it stands as both a tribute to one of graffiti’s most essential practices and a reflection on repetition, memory, and the persistence of the trace.

Designed by Martin Clamens and printed offset by Escourbiac, the book runs to 472 pages with exposed-stitch binding — an object as much as a book. Limited to 800 copies.

Le Grand Jeu invites you to the launch of Never Ending Story in the presence of Tilt. An evening to meet the artist, leaf through the book, and talk throw-ups, erasure, and the never-ending cycle of the wall.
