Capuzzelle — Naming the Anonymous Dead

25 September @ 18:00 - 21:00 CEST

Capuzzelle are the anonymous skulls of Naples: for centuries, in the ossuaries and cemeteries of the city, the living would adopt one, give it a name and pray for its soul, in the hope that the favour might be returned. Andrea d’Avossa spent 2025 walking the Cimitero Monumentale di Poggioreale on that principle, though what he brought back is neither devotion nor nostalgia but an inventory — a frontal, serial photographic typology of the skulls carved and forged into the graves themselves. His accomplice Mathieu Imbert then took over the naming: Francky, Karl, Clitandre, Amenhotep III and poor Maxime, hand-stamped onto the page with an irony that is tender and faintly absurd.

Andrea d’Avossa comes up from Naples for the evening and will be at the shop to sign copies, with the full run available. Capuzzelle is published by Top Fanzine Editions in an edition of 60 numbered copies, each blistered with a stamped photographic print: A6, 32 pages, black and white, Arena Rough paper, hand-stamped text, hand-stitched binding, text in French and Italian, €15.
