A few days ago, I wrote about Le Grand Jeu’s new website and logo. Now it’s time to dig a little deeper and show you what’s actually changed — starting with the shop, before moving on to this Journal and our Paperware sections.

The most obvious change is the new look of the shop. But the real transformation happened behind the scenes. Beyond the nearly 3,000 titles currently available online, the shop now features several hundred listings for books that are either sold out or temporarily out of stock. I know how often you browse these pages — they’re among the most visited on the site. Still, we had to strike a balance, so that this abundance doesn’t get in the way of your browsing.

Let’s start with the categories and subcategories — they’ve been completely reworked to let you find quickly what you’re looking for.
We’ve gone from five main sections to just three: Art, Music, and Lifestyle. Photography and Tattoo now fall under Art, while Sport and Fashion are grouped under Lifestyle.

In exchange, we’ve added a whole set of subcategories — many of them have existed in the physical shop for a while, but were almost invisible online until now.

  • Under Art, you’ll now find Contemporary Art, Street Art, Graffiti, and new additions like Coding, Graphic Design, Photography, and Tattoo.

  • The Music section hasn’t changed much (yet), but we’ve already prepared pages for specific genres like Reggae and Metal, ready to go live when the time feels right.

  • Lifestyle is where things really get exciting. Alongside classics like Sneakers, Skateboard, Surf, and Urbex, we’ve added eight new sections: Basketball, Bikes, Dance, Fight Club, Psychedelia, Streetwear, Ultras, and Underdogs. Wheels and Sci-Fi are also in the pipeline — and they won’t be the last.

One section I’m especially proud of: Graffiti now has a dedicated space, complete with its own subcategories:

  • Freight Trains, exploring the world of hobos and people travelling or painting freight trains,
  • Lettering, focused on letterforms and typography,
  • and Oldschool zines, featuring graffiti zines from the ’80s to today.

We’ve also introduced categories for specific item types — partly to help you browse faster, and partly to better showcase the daily research we put into curating a solid selection.

  • Rare Books now have their own page — no more hunting for them in the middle of everything else.

  • Goodies too: all the small treasures we love — badges, puzzles, mugs, pins — are gathered in one place.

  • The Magazines and Zines pages are great if you’re looking for publications in those formats. Of course, you’ll still find them in their usual thematic categories too.

All the prints, posters, and artworks we’ve collected during book signings are now grouped together in the new Gallery.
It’s still a bit chaotic — things are mixed up for now — but we’re on it, and it’ll be much easier to browse very soon.

Beyond the structural work, there are a few more updates I think you’ll appreciate:

  1. You can now get notified by email when a book is back in stock. Just click the “Notify me” banner and enter your email in the pop-up — no need to check back manually.

  2. We’ve teamed up with a new logistics partner. The result? Lower shipping costs — sometimes way lower — and the ability to choose a pickup point directly from our site if you prefer not to receive your parcel at home.
