Bordeaux90 — The Birth of a Graffiti Scene

Before becoming a movement, a scene often begins with a few teenagers testing the city.
In the early 1990s, Bordeaux saw the emergence of a graffiti scene shaped by freedom, intuition, and close contact with the urban environment. Bordeaux 90, Naissance d’une scène graff looks back at that decisive decade, when a local visual language took form beyond dominant codes.

Published by Éditions Terrain Vague, this bilingual book combines firsthand accounts, contextual analysis, and previously unpublished analog photographic archives. Neither a simple image catalogue nor a collection of interviews, it offers a structured reading of a scene influenced by hip-hop, skate culture, hardcore punk, and other subcultures in full effervescence.

The event will mark the launch of Bordeaux 90, Naissance d’une scène graff at Le Grand Jeu. An opportunity to discover the book and revisit the visual grammar that emerged from Bordeaux’s streets, trains, and industrial margins.
