Street art was born on walls, but it learned very early how to live through images. Long before social media, graffiti travelled by photographs, magazines, VHS tapes, and photocopies. Loading. Street Art in the Digital Age starts from this simple observation and follows it to its contemporary consequences.
The exhibition unfolds like a slow immersion into the visual memory of urban art. Images slide, overlap, multiply. Murals appear, disappear, resurface elsewhere. What was once local becomes global; what was once ephemeral becomes endlessly replayable. Here, street art is not presented as a fixed object, but as a moving flow — a culture shaped as much by streets as by screens.
Rather than reconstructing the city, the Grand Palais Immersif transforms its space into a vast digital environment. Walls no longer serve as supports, but as surfaces of projection. The visitor walks inside images, surrounded by fragments of cities, gestures, tags, and large-scale interventions. The experience mirrors the way urban art circulates today: fragmented, accelerated, constantly reloaded.
Loading does not seek to freeze street art into a historical narrative. Instead, it highlights a shift. A shift in scale, in visibility, in rhythm. The wall is still there, but it now coexists with drones, archives, algorithms, and feeds. The act of painting is inseparable from its documentation; the image often outlives the place.
By bringing together artists and scenes from different parts of the world, the exhibition sketches a global cartography of urban expression. Digital tools flatten distances, allowing styles, symbols, and strategies to circulate almost instantly. What emerges is not a single story, but a constellation of practices, connected by shared technologies and divergent contexts.
In the end, Loading. Street Art in the Digital Age feels less like a retrospective than a snapshot taken mid-movement. An exhibition about transition, about images in transit, about an art form that never fully stops — always buffering, always loading.
